LAPS News:

The 2020 and 2021 Pegasus Special Two-year Edition, the Los Alamos High School Literary Magazine, was recently selected to receive the rank of Excellent in the 2021 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (RELM) program.

Topper Virtual Academy English Teacher Ildiko Nadaskay Goeller is the Pegasus sponsor.

“From all of us at the National Council of Teachers of English, congratulations to you and your students on this exceptional publication,” NCTE Executive Director Emily Kirkpatrick said. “We commend you for inspiring a love of writing that your students will remember for the rest of their lives.”

The 2020 and 2021 Pegasus staff included Editor-in-Chief Dana Urbatsch; staff members Katherine Fanning, Camille Martinez and Marian Stradling.

“Due to COVID-19, our special two-year edition was completed in the virtual setting,” Nadaskay Goeller said.

The mission of NCTE’s REALM program is to publicly recognize excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing.

“Your magazine is a fine example of this mission in action, and the REALM committee looks forward to seeing future publications from your school,” the committee wrote in an email to Nadaskay Goeller informing her of the ranking.
