Come out and support Los Alamos High School Olions performing Our Town! A Thornton Wilder play that’s entertaining from beginning to end and displays the talent of our local students.

The performance opens in the small town of Grover’s Corners, with the Stage Manager (freshman Riley Rheinheimer) narrating the daily lives of people living in the town during the year 1901. As time passes, childhood sweethearts Emily Webb (freshman Annie Xie) and George Gibbs (freshman Henry Tholen) realize their love for each other and get married.

Upperclassmen Elijah Hanks, Lizzie Massa, Marcus Sintay, and Helene Joris play the beaming parents of the two newlyweds and delight in reminiscing about their own childhoods and wedding jitters, all in Grover’s Corners. The play ends with a nostalgic air of decades past, as the Stage Manager recounts all the births and deaths of the town since the marriage of Emily and George, and concludes with a message to enjoy the simple joys of life.

The costume design is by Olions president, Lizzie Massa, and reflects the rural simplistic era of the early 1900s. The set design likewise, is simple, but really lets the actors’ talents take the main focus of the show. Although the scenery isn’t complex, it perfectly emulates the feeling of sentimental but cozy childhood homes, something that one can easily relate to Los Alamos.

The production has two directors; Mr. Webb whose experience in performing arts is vast – from working at Los Alamos’s Little Theatre and Light Opera to playing for the Alaska Folk Festival – so he definitely knows a thing or two about directing theater!

The play’s other director is Los Alamos High School senior Sam Wolfsberg, who has been a part of Olions’ productions since freshman year. He held main roles in various productions like Title of Show, Murder on the Orient Express, Twelfth Night, etc., and as it is his last year at the high school the experience of directing a play is a great opportunity.

Our Town is truly the perfect combination of modern local talent and enduring timeless values of family, childhood, and romance. It presents the gentleness and humor of wedding jitters and high-school math homework, as well as the calm sadness of time just flying by.

With evening (7 p.m.) performances Friday, Nov 5; Saturday, Nov. 6; Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13 at Duane Smith Auditorium, this is a show that you don’t want to miss!
