The Los Alamos High School (LAHS) JV Softball Team traveled to Taos Friday for their first district games against the Tigers. They swept them 12-10 for the first game and 11-8 in the second game.

Sydney Kitts, JV’s starting catcher and leadoff batter, hit her first 3 run home run in the first game. This gave the Toppers the lead in the top of the 4th inning 6-5.

Taos answered in the 4th and 5th innings and LA headed into the 6th inning down by 3. Two singles and a double drove in 4 runs.

Adia Fortin, LAMS 8th grader, returned to the circle for the first time since 2019 when she got injured and her battle begun to get back on the field. Her lefty debut couldn’t have gone any better! She allowed 2 hits, 1 unearned run and 3 strikeouts.

Heading into the 7th the teams were tied 10-10. LA put up 2 runs and their defense closed it out to win 12-10.

LAHS sophomore Kitts hit another 3-run bomb in the second game to put LA within 1 run of Taos in the top of the 6th inning. The starting 8th grade pitcher, Sierra Gonzales, went 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. Freshman, Malaya Haynes, relieved Sierra and struck out all three batters in the bottom of 6th.

LA was down by one going into the 7th inning and they put up 4 runs on Taos and didn’t allow any more runs to end the game with a 11-8 victory over the Tigers!
