LAHS Hilltalkers Hot Waffle Breakfast May 11

LAHS News:

The LAHS Hilltalkers would like to invite the public to their all-you-can-eat Waffle Breakfast 7:30-10 a.m., Saturday May 11 at Pajarito Mason Lodge, 15th Street and Canyon Road in Los Alamos.

The breakfast features scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits and waffles with whipped cream, blueberry and cherry toppings. Coffee, tea and juice will be served.

Tickets are $6 each and can be purchased at the door. Children under 6 eat free.

This community event raises funds for Los Alamos High School and Los Alamos Middle School Speech and Debate Teams to attend tournaments and compete around the state and beyond.

The LAMS team grew from approximately 5-8 active members last year to close to 40 active members this year. The Jr. Hilltalkers came home with five 1st place trophies, one 2nd place trophy, and four 3rd place trophies, all at high school competitions (there are currently no middle school tournaments in the state.) They were the 11th largest middle school team nationwide. Seven team members from the LAHS Hilltalkers qualified for the National Forensic League’s national speech and debate competition, which will be held in Birmingham, Alabama in June.

Funding covers team expenses such as travel and lodging. Both teams have experienced exciting growth in numbers and participation this year.

Parents and students have organized a series of successful fundraisers in order to meet increased team costs. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the community members who support our Speech and Debate Teams by chaperoning, attending and hosting events, judging at tournaments, helping with fundraisers, and donating through United Way.
