LAHS Girls Soccer
The Los Alamos High School Girls Soccer Kick for the Cure held Tuesday, Oct. 24 was a successful evening all around.
Sporting pink socks for the occasion and enduring the rain and cold, the Hilltoppers took the win for both games. The Girls Varsity team were victorious over the Taos Tigers with a 3-0 finish, and the Los Alamos Junior Varsity team defeated Santa Fe High School 4-2.
That was not the only win on Tuesday night. When the LAHS players were not on the field, they took to the bleachers spreading the word about breast cancer and raising funds for breast cancer research. As part of the fundraising efforts, fans took their chances at half time shooting against goal keepers Mika Stanfield, Kailey Thwaits and Elianna McNiff.
Local resident, Brad McKown, was the winner of the Kick for the Cure raffle, which included tickets to a 2024 New Mexico United game. The team managed to raise $584, which will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, one of largest non-profit investors in breast cancer research in the world.
Nancy Partridge, Advocacy Ambassador for the Susan G. Koman Foundation was present for the games, donning her angel wings which bear the names of breast cancer survivors and those who lost their battle to the disease. Nancy spoke briefly to the crowd about the mission of the Susan G. Koman Foundation, the wins the organization has achieved in the last year and how every human is vulnerable to breast cancer and should take preventative actions with their health. The Hilltoppers Girls Soccer team will present Nancy with a check for the funds raised later this week. For more information about the Susan G. Koman Foundation please visit https://www.komen.org/.
