In an effort to spread awareness about the necessity of political action for climate change, members of the Eco Club at Los Alamos High School held a ‘Fridays For Future’ strike Friday afternoon at Ashley Pond Park. Fridays For Future is an international movement started by activist Greta Thunberg, 19, a Swedish environmental activist known for challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation. During their strike Friday at the Pond, student speakers from left, Sofia Enriquez, Adalee Witt and Dana Roelofs urge people to talk to their friends and family about climate change and to speak up to entities like the County Council and the School Board. Later in the program Sue Barns of the Los Alamos County Resiliency, Energy and Sustainability Task Force asks listeners to show up Tuesday evening for the County Council meeting, at which the Task Force will present its findings, and encouraged them to speak up during public comment.
