Los Alamos High School DECA has developed a community service project to give back to a local mother and her 6-year-old son who has been battling leukemia.

DECA, with assistance from Los Alamos Firefighters hosted a carwash Nov. 12.

“We really want to thank Los Alamos National Bank and especially Britta Anderson for sponsoring the event and Smith’s Marketplace as well,” a spokesperson said. “We were able to raise almost $1,500 thanks to the help of Fire Marshall Jeff Wetteland and LAFD as well as LAHS DECA.”

To continue their fundraising efforts for this child and his mom, the DECA group is hosting a spaghetti and fettuccine dinner at 7 p.m. Thursday at Crossroads Bible Church in Los Alamos. There will be gift basket auctions at the event and all proceeds will be going to help the local youth who has battled leukemia his entire life and his single mom.
