LAHS Cross Country Teams Dominate At Home Meet

The Los Alamos High School Cross Country teams dominated their Home Meet Friday afternoon at the Los Alamos Golf Course. Both the Girls and Boys Varsity teams handily beat Class 4A rival Albuquerque Academy, to take the team titles.

The Hilltopper Girls were lead by sophomore Delany Ulrich and senior Kelly Wetteland, who took 2nd and 3rd overall in times of 19:30 and 19:48, respectively – excellent times on the hilly home course. Junior Emma Montoya, senior Norissa Valdez, and junior Sophie Chadwick also scored for the Toppers. Junior Hailey McDowell and senior Kamaya Ronning rounded out the Topper Varsity team.

Seniors Keith Bridge, Morgan Schaller, and Ryan Aldaz took the top-3 spots in the Boys Varsity race, in times of 16:31, 16:33, and 16:56, respectively. Seniors Rowan Flores and Reuben Goettee completed the scoring quintet in 7th and 8th places, overall. Freshman Eddie Gartz and junior Beck Ellis rounded out the Topper Varsity team.

The JV Girls race was lead by Topper junior Zorah Fullop and freshman Rebecca Beaux, who lead the Toppers in places 1-2 to a win over Albuquerque Academy in times of 22:00 and 22:02, respectively.

The JV Boys were lead by junior Jack Ammerman and freshman Duane Sena, who took 3rd and 4th overall in times of 18:50 and 18:15, respectively. The Topper Boys JV team finished 2nd to a very strong team from Cleveland HS.

The first race of the day was the traditional Elementary School Mile, won by Mountain 5th grader Levi Gibson in a time of 5:46, and Mountain 4th grader Maren Dixon, who finished in 6th place overall in a time of 6:32.

The Hilltopper Varsity teams next compete at the District Championship Friday afternoon at Española High School. The State Championship will be held at Albuquerque Academy Saturday, Nov. 6.
