The LAHS boys Varsity Golf team was victorious Tuesday at the St. Mikes Spring Tournament held at Santa Fe County Club. The hilltoppers battled the wind and cold weather to record an awesome team score of 301, securing 1st place ahead of St. Mikes (313) and Santa Fe High (327). Lincoln Hoffer finished in 2nd place 1 stroke off the leader with a 72.Javan Rael and Mikey Velasquez-Saiz tied for 5th place, both shooting a 76. Followed by Angus Smith (77), Liam Jones (88) and Noah Romero(101). This victory follows another 1st place finish Mon April 6th at the Espanola Sundevil Open at Back Mesa Gold Course where Lincoln Hoffer (Sophomore) and Angus Smith (JR) tied for 1st place each recording a 75.
At the NM State 4A preview Tournament held March 30th at the NM Tech Golf Course in Socorro the hilltoppers demonstrated strong teamwork finishing 3rd with a team score of 323 just behind Albuquerque Academy(319) and Artesia (316).
The young toppers are led by a trio of Lincoln Hoffer(SO), Javan Rael(SO) and Mikey Velasquez-Saiz (JR). Their efforts and teamwork have been the foundation to the toppers success. Juniors Angus Smith and Noah Romero have floated the 4 and 5 spots with upcomers Jacob Romero (8th) and Liam Jones(So) rounding up the 6th man position.
Due to ongoing recent projects at the Los Alamos County Golf Course the hilltoppers have had limited access to the course or practice facilities over the last couple seasons making their accomplishments that much more impressive because they have had to travel off site. The Hilltoppers are hoping to build momentum as they head into the district tournament and the NMAA State Championship 5/11-12 at NM Tech Golf Course in Socorro. The Hilltopper boys are currently ranked 3rd in NM State Class 4A behind Artesia and Lovington.
