Los Alamos County Firefighters responded to a distress call about 3 p.m. today from rafters on the river near the Red Dot Trail in White Rock.
LAFD Battalion Chief Ben Stone told the Los Alamos Daily Post this evening that two women and their children started from an unknown location intending to raft to Cochiti but began to worry they might not complete the trip and weren’t able to hike out.
“Station 3 responded down to the river and determined there were no injuries,” Chief Stone said.
He explained that Classic Air Medical was enlisted to fly the women and children out and EMS was waiting to check them over and ensure they were alright … they were and eventually left with family members.
“I’m really glad they called us when they did instead of waiting until nighttime when it would have been much more difficult,” Chief Stone said.
