LAAC Hosts Virtual Brown Bag Show Wednesday

Pianist Yelena Mealy

LAAC News:

Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) has worked through new technological waters to bring the Brown Bag Series virtually to the community.

Due to social/physical distancing, LAAC cannot hold the Brown Bag series in person.

Fortunately, the organization’s first performers, Heidi Morning on flute, and Yelena Mealy on the piano, are gracious enough to record their lovely performance.

LAAC has put the performance on YouTube for the public to enjoy. Patrons can visit YouTube at https:////youtu.be/SviK4TVg4cQ to see the work and dedication that these two artists have put into their performance.

The program includes pieces from Claude Debussy, Cecile Chaminade, Gabriel Faure, and Charles T. Griffes.

At noon Wednesday, LAAC will host a Facebook Watch Party.

Flutist Heidi Morning

Morning has played the flute for over a decade. She started playing in the sixth grade and has kept playing since. Aside from participating in national flute events, Morning also plays in local ensembles including the Los Alamos Community Winds, Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra and the Los Alamos Flute Choir. She continues to grow as a musician and is happy to share her talents with the Los Alamos community.

Mealy was born in Kazan, Russia. At age 6, she attended music school, graduating after eight years of study. After completing middle school, she went to Kazan Secondary Vocational School of Music for four years. Since arriving in the U.S. 15 years ago, she has taught piano and worked as an accompanist. She moved to Los Alamos three years ago. She enjoys playing for Coro de Camara, Unitarian, United and Methodist churches, LAPS choirs and teaching piano students.

Morning and Mealy, as well as Los Alamos Arts Council, thank Pac8 and its recording of the performance for viewing. The Brown Bag Concert Series is a free series provided to the community. Patrons wishing to make a donation to the Arts Council, or to the Brown Bag series can visit the LAAC at https://losalamosartscouncil.org/members-page/ to make a donation, or to become a member!
