LAAC News:
The Los Alamos Arts Council features the SaxAtomix at noon today during the virtual Brown Bag show.
To hear the SaxAtomix, visit https://losalamosartscouncil.org/ or go the Los Alamos Arts Council’s Facebook page.
The SaxAtomis will perform a variety of popular tunes such as the theme from “The Pink Panther,” “Beale Street Blues,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “My Funny Valentine”. As an encore, they will play a holiday jazz tune.
According to the program, the SaxAtomic began in 2017 as a quartet consisting of players drawn from the Los Alamos Community Winds. The quartet grew into a quintet, which consists of Bryan Fearey, soprano and alto sax; Adolfo Meana, Jr., alto sax; Sadie Barry, alto sax; Joyce Guzik, tenor sax; and Paul Lewis, baritone sax; initially met up just for the fun of jamming through jazz charts together.
Over time, the group’s composition and goals shifted. The quintet decided to challenge themselves with more difficult pieces for multiple external performances. The SaxAtomix performed in many local events including the 2019 Los Alamos Evening of Arts and Culture and in the annual Prism Concert hosted by the Los Alamos Community Winds (LACW) in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
SaxAtomix also performed at the 2020 Columbus Day LACW small-group “Drive-In” Concert and provided Monster Melodies virtually for the Los Alamos County “2020 Halloweekend”. The SaxAtomix plans to perform at the Los Alamos and White Rock senior centers when reopened to the public.
