The SaxAtomix will perform at noon Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Fuller Lodge for the Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) Brown Bag show.
The group began in 2017 as a quartet consisting of players drawn from the Los Alamos Community Winds. Initially, they met up just for the fun of jamming through jazz charts together. Over time, the group’s composition and goals shifted. The quartet became a quintet, and its members decided to challenge themselves with more difficult pieces for multiple external performances.
The SaxAtomix performed during the 2019 Los Alamos Evening of Arts and Culture and in the annual Prism Concert hosted by the Los Alamos Community Winds (LACW) in 2017, 2018 and 2019. They performed at the 2020 Columbus Day LACW small-group “Drive-In” Concert and provided Monster Melodies virtually for the Los Alamos County “2020 Halloweekend”.
The SaxAtomix performed virtually for the December 2020 “Brown Bag Concert Series” normally at Fuller Lodge, for 2021 Valentine’s and Mother’s Day performances, and at the Memorial Day ensemble performances at Ashley Pond.
Audiences can expect to hear a mix of genres played by the SaxAtomix, including traditional, folk, jazz and classical.
Members of the group are Bryan Fearey, soprano sax; Adolfo Meana, Jr., alto sax; Wendy Keffeler, alto sax; Joyce Guzik, tenor tax; and Paul Lewis, baritone sax.
The Brown Bag Shows are free but donations are accepted. Masks are required to attend the show.
