LAAC News:
The Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) has a packed schedule for February. Below is a snapshot of what the arts organization has coming up; visit www.LosAlamosArtsCouncil.org/Events-2-1 for updates.
- After school art studios have returned: After School Art Studios are a fun, low-pressure way to get kids’ creative energy flowing. Supported by a grant from the Los Alamos Community Foundation and Anchorum Community Health, these studios let kids and teens explore their own interests with guidance from Studio Coordinator Hannah R. They can bring their own projects, use LAAC’s supplies, or show up with an idea and get support from staff and peers. LAAC also now offers ‘punch cards’ (available in sets of three, six, or 10) for ease of signing up. For more and to sign up, visit https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/youth-programs
- Adult art education continues: LAAC is offering art classes and studio space for adults, featuring classes on sewing, ceramics (both wheel and handbuilding,) figure painting, and book binding. For more and to sign up, visit https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/adulteducation
- Concerts in February: LAAC has two concerts coming up this month. Noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 11, folk artist Jubal will perform in Fuller Lodge. This concert is free and open to the public. On Feb.13, local favorites Tjett Gerdom and Jennifer Perez with accompanists will perform a mixture of opera and contemporary hits to celebrate Valentine’s Day. For more info and for tickets, visit https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/events-2-1/love-sucks-concert-ft-tjett-gerdom-jennifer-perez
- Preorder a Kite Festival Shirt: Every year LAAC gives away hundreds of T-shirts to local youth who build and fly kites with us at Overlook Park. This year, not as many shirts will be ordered as in past. LAAC will still have more than 100 free shirts on site, but to guarantee a child gets a shirt in their size, LAAC is offering pre-orders to help offset material and labor costs this year. To find out more and preorder, visit https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/kite-festival-26
- Work with the Arts Council: LAAC is still hiring part-time weekend gallery help! If interested in working in the arts, visit www.LosAlamosArtsCouncil.org/careers
- Just want to meet fellow artists? From 4-5 p.m. Feb. 15, come to Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op for Crafts & Drafts. Attendees bring their own art supplies or utilize LAAC’s tub of crafts. Free and open to the public (older than age 21.)
