The three winners of the 2020 “Los Alamos Paint Out” received their awards and prizes Friday afternoon during outdoor event.
The Best of Show honor went to Madina Croce of Santa Fe for her oil painting entitled “Looking Over the Rio Grande”.
Pat Leister of Albuquerque garnered 2nd place with her watercolor, “White Rock Trail View”.
Elizabeth Cooper of Santa Fe won 3rd pace for her pastel “This One’s for Joe”.
These paintings and 63 others from the Paint Out are showing and available for purchase 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday until Oct. 10, at Fuller Lodge Art Center, 2132 Central Ave.
Plein Air Painters of New Mexico (PAPNM) and Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) sponsored the 2020 “Los Alamos Paint Out”.
This is the second plein air event of this nature. The first was the 2018 Los Alamos Paint Out, co- sponsored by Fuller Lodge Art Center and PAPNM. A third event in 2022 cosponsored by PAPNM and Los Alamos Arts Council is already in the planning stage.
The Los Alamos Paint Out is a painting contest for members of PAPNM. Contestants must start with blank canvases or papers that are officially stamped on the back. Artists then go to locales within defined borders surrounding the Los Alamos area to catch the true light and colors of New Mexico’s landscape from dawn till dusk for two and a half days. Participants choose their best two entries, frame them and present them to PAPNM officials for judging.
This year’s judge was Jane Chapin, who is an accomplished, internationally-known artist from Pecos. Chapin also led a one-day workshop Friday on the lawn behind Fuller Lodge about the professional aspects of plein air painting.
