The Los Alamos High School (LAHS) girls soccer team won one game and dropped two Saturday at the annual Albuquerque Academy soccer tournament.
The Toppers lost its first game 8-1 against the defending 4A state champions Hope Christian. Tara McDonald scored the lone goal for LA in the second half.
The Toppers rebounded the next day and beat the 5A state runner up Carlsbad High School 3-1. Tara McDonald scored two goals and Jenna Montoya scored one goal for the Toppers. Assists were credited to Marlee Katko and McDonald.
The Toppers lost the final game to Sandia Prep, the defending 3A state champs, 3-1 in the final game. Despite solid scoring opportunities, the Toppers only converted one on a goal by Meredith Brown assisted by Tara McDonald.
Throughout the weekend, the defense was led by MacKenzie Echave, Carly Holland, Allie Holland, Estella Remillieux and Angelie Echave, with Mika Stanfield in the goal. Carter, Isabel Atencio, Brown, Dayja Fellers, Gracie Haagenstad and Jenna Montoya provided solid midfield play while McDonald and Katko generated offensive attacks.
The Toppers host Rio Ranch High School 6 p.m. Tuesday and Cleveland High School 10 a.m. Saturday. They travel Thursday to St. Pius.
The community is encouraged to come out and support the team this homecoming week!
