La Fonda on the Plaza News:

SANTA FE — La Fonda on the Plaza’s Party of the Century Saturday, March 26 at Santa Fe’s landmark hotel is deemed a smashing success.

All profits from the event benefit the Southwestern Association of Indian Arts (SWAIA), also celebrating 100 Years. Both La Fonda and SWAIA are significant cornerstones of the City Different, and both institutions play an integral role in safeguarding our community’s treasured past.

More than 350 attendees gathered to celebrate the occasion, including the New Mexico State Governor, the Honorable Michelle Lujan Grisham, the City of Santa Fe Mayor, the Honorable Alan Webber, along with the incomparable actor and activist, Ali MacGraw, narrator of La Fonda’s Centennial documentary.  Attendees enjoyed the documentary debut, produced in partnership with Hutton Broadcasting, highlighting the rich and storied past of the hotel, its history as a Harvey House, the many figures that have preserved La Fonda over the ages, the famous guests and the local supporters that consider La Fonda their living room.

To truly honor Santa Fe’s diverse community the celebration featured local talent, including the folk tunes of Bill Hearne, the vibrant Mexican ballads of Mariachi Azteca de Santa Fe, the lively and dynamic sounds of the Los Alamos Big Band Combo and artistic Hoop Dance performances by champion Hoop Dancers, Tyrese Jenson and his sister, Kai Jenson.

La Fonda is deeply honored that so many New Mexico businesses participated as sponsors for the event and appreciates the heartfelt food and wine contributions of Ben E. Keith Food Service Distributors, Southern Glazers Wine and Spirits and Sysco. Los Poblanos Historic Inn, another John Gaw Meem property, created a special 1922 signature scent to mark La Fonda’s birthday and each attendee received a souvenir gift to mark the occasion.

Visitors to the Santa Fe Plaza enjoyed an early evening rooftop mariachi performance, along with the presence of the Bear Creek Cowboys and Cowgirls, who enchanted passersby, evoking a bygone era greeting guests and visitors on horseback at the San Francisco Street entrance to the hotel.

La Fonda’s ownership, management and employees extend their deep appreciation for the outpouring of love and support and look forward to the next 100 years of hospitality.
