SANTA FE – In an effort to help curb the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and prioritize the health and safety of employees and guests, La Fonda on the Plaza is postponing its 100 Year Anniversary Celebration until March 26, 2022.

The 100 Year Anniversary Celebration, tabbed the “Party of the Century”, was originally scheduled for Jan. 22, 2022. The decision to postpone the event is intended to help alleviate further stress placed on New Mexico’s healthcare system by centering the health and safety of guests and employees.

“This event was intended to kick off a year of festivities for one of the Southwest’s most-celebrated historic hotels,” said La Fonda on the Plaza Vice President and General Manager Rik Blyth said. “Unfortunately, COVID is still our reality. We did not want the anxiety of the current COVID surge hanging over this event for what was intended to be a moment of shared gratitude and positivity between everyone who had a role in building La Fonda on the Plaza into what it is today. We are hopeful that when this surge recedes, we will be able to gather and put on the celebration this venue deserves.”

La Fonda on the Plaza Chair of the Board and Tourism Commission Chair Jenny Kimball said, “It can be hard to celebrate meaningful milestones with family, friends and colleagues when the concerns of COVID continue to impact our lives. It was necessary for us to do our part to prevent the spread of this incredibly contagious variant of COVID. This decision aligns with La Fonda’s core values – we will always look out for the well-being of our guests and staff, and by doing so we are hoping for a more robust 2022.”

The “Party of the Century” will feature libations, live performances and a premier of La Fonda Through the Decades, a special documentary narrated by Ali MacGraw that features Santa Fe leaders and public figures who have shaped the past, present, and future of La Fonda on the Plaza. La Fonda on the Plaza will be donating proceeds from the “Party of the Century” to the Southwestern Association of Indian Arts, which also is celebrating its own centennial celebration.
