LA Cares is your local food pantry. We are totally staffed by volunteers and supported 100% by donations from individuals, churches, businesses, schools, service organizations, and even thrift shops.
Many local groups hold food drives for us. We provide food distribution once a month and serve an average of 100 families monthly (200+ individuals). Some people may be unaware that there is a large number of people in Los Alamos (the richest county in the state) who are living paycheck to paycheck, where one car malfunction or medical emergency can derail their financial security. We are part of the safety net of services that aim to give them a better chance of survival (literally).
In these uncertain times, it is difficult to predict our future needs. But it is certain that costs for everything are going up and more people need the services we provide. We spend between $3,000 and $4,000 each month to supplement non-perishable food items provided by the Food Depot in Santa Fe and local food drives. We purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, meat, cereal, juice, eggs, pet food, kid snacks, diapers, and special food for those with restricted diets. We see the cost of these items only going up.
Los Alamos is a very generous community! Because of your generosity, LA Cares is able to provide nutritious food as well as rent and/or utility assistance to residents of Los Alamos County. We are very grateful for your continued support.
So, Los Alamos, we are asking that you support this absolutely necessary survival tool. LA Cares fills a gap that many people aren’t even aware exists. You can help support our neighbors in need. The food and rent or utility assistance that we provide can be the lifeline that helps avoid homelessness for many families.
If you are already a donor, you are greatly appreciated! If you are not, then please consider supporting LA Cares and your neighbors in need. Every dollar stays in Los Alamos County. A donation in any amount is helpful. A recurring monthly donation (through PayPal or check) gives much-needed stability to our budget. You can send a check to our mailbox: PO Box 248, Los Alamos, NM 87544 or go to our website, lacaresnm.org, and donate through PayPal.
Thank you for the amazing support LA Cares has received in the past … and for any future support. You, the generous people of Los Alamos, are the reason we can continue to be a helping hand when the need arises. Thank you!!
With a grateful heart,
Lyn
