Knights of Columbus Awards LAHS Scholarships

KOC News:

Fifteen Los Alamos High School graduating seniors recently received scholarships from the Knights of Columbus, Council 3137.

A total of $8,500 was available for scholarship awards this year, including a donation by John and Judy Ireland in memory of their daughter, Jamie Lee. This is the 14th year the Knights have provided such scholarships.

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal benefit organization that raises funds for charitable causes. Funding for the annual LAHS graduating senior scholarships is generated by holding a fun-loving golf tournament at the Los Alamos golf course every September that is supported by the participation of many Los Alamos community members and local businesses.

Scholarships are awarded each year to LAHS seniors who have exhibited exemplary community service, expressed financial need, have been active in extracurricular activities, and showed academic achievement, and to graduating seniors who have demonstrated their Catholic ideals by having been actively involved in the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish community during their high school years.

The next golf tournament will occur on Sept. 19.
