K of C News:
Ten Los Alamos High School 2017 graduating seniors have received scholarships from the Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Council 3137.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal benefit organization that raises funds for charitable causes. Funding for the annual LAHS graduating senior scholarships is generated by holding a fun-loving golf tournament at the Los Alamos golf course every September that is supported by the participation of many Los Alamos community members and local businesses.
A total of $8,750 was available for scholarship awards this year including a generous donation by John and Judy Ireland in memory of their daughter Jamie Lee, who passed away in 2012, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. This is the 16th year the Knights have provided such scholarships.
Scholarships are awarded each year to LAHS seniors who have exhibited exemplary community service, expressed substantial financial need, have been active in extracurricular activities, and demonstrated academic achievement. In addition, graduating seniors need to have demonstrated their Catholic ideals by having been actively involved in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish community during their high school years.
The Knights of Columbus is very proud to support these fine young deserving people.
The golf tournament is Sept. 15 this year and everyone is encouraged to participate in this worthwhile effort to raise money for the 2018 Knights of Columbus Scholarships.
