Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos

All of the Kiwanis sponsored youth service clubs in the community have started meeting and are looking for students to join them in their fun activities and projects and to learn about the importance of helping their community and its needs.

Four of the five elementary schools have K-Kids Clubs, the middle school has the Builders Club, and the Key Club is active in the high school. The clubs meet at their respective schools either at lunchtime or after school.

Students in Key Club have helped with many Kiwanis projects, including Breakfast with Santa, Aluminum Can Collection, and the Foster Children’s Christmas Party. They also are active in supporting student mental health efforts in the community. The club sells cotton candy at the summer concerts at Ashley Pond Park to fund their service projects. All the clubs put their backs into helping pack boxes and collecting books for the African Library Project as well as participating in the Homecoming and Electric Light Parades.

K-Kida and Builders Club members are busy making toys and collecting food for animal shelters, making cards for veterans and seniors, recycling awareness projects, and adopt-a-family at the holidays.

Meeting times and places for all clubs and their faculty advisors:

  • High School Key Club – Thursdays at lunch, Shelley Clark’s room.
  • Middle School Builders Club – Mondays at lunch, Akiko Shiina’s room (147). Note the new meeting date.
  • Aspen K-Kids – Wednesdays after school, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Rachel Bartram’s math lab. Note the new meeting date and time.
  • Barranca K-Kids – Thursdays after school, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Valerie Collins’ music room.
  • Chamisa K-Kids – Fridays at lunch, Andrea Lynch’s art room.
  • Pinon K-Kids – Thursdays at lunch, with Jodi Hughes at noon in either the courtyard or library.

Note: Age requirements for membership varies by school.
