Khalsa Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine is back in business!

Dr. Seva Simran Siri Singh Khalsa and his wife, Seva Simran Siri Kaur Khalsa, operated their acupuncture practice in the Mari Mac Plaza for years but were forced to close due to an illness. The practice reopened in November 2019 at 118 Central Park Square, inside Gateway Medical Care.

“We’re back — better than ever!” Dr. Seva said, adding that he can treat basically anything.

“I treat everything from A to Z,” he said. “Allergies to Zoster” (shingles).

Dr. Seva said while he practices Chinese medicine, his services are complementary to Western medicine. Patients do not need their doctor’s referral to receive treatment.

“I get results,” he said. “I focus on helping someone to the point where they’re happy.”

In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Seva said he plans to hold classes once a month or so about acupuncture and Chinese medicine for different medical conditions.

Dr. Khalsa teaches Kundalini Yoga and meditation at 10 a.m. Saturdays at Gateway Medical Care. Kundalini Yoga is a comprehensive yoga that focuses on posture, breathing, meditation and mudras (hand positions) that guide the energy flow to specific areas of the brain.

Dr. Khalsa has been practicing medicine for 25 years. He practiced in Los Angeles before he and his wife moved to Española in 2004 to be with the local Sikh community.

He studied in Japan and primarily uses Japanese styles of acupuncture, one which features very small .3mm or .6mm needles, that are almost never felt. Recent skin research in Japan has shown why this system works.

Dr. Khalsa explained that he was introduced to acupuncture when he was considering going to chiropractic school.

“I went to some acupuncturists and I just liked what they did,” he said. “It’s more thorough and complete. I can treat more conditions and it effects the mind, too.”

Dr. Khalsa added his practice not only benefits his patients but himself as well.

“I never stop learning,” he said. “I learn from each patient. People don’t fit in a box.”

Khalsa Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more information, call 505.662.1687 or visit KhalsaAcupuncture.com.
