The Los Alamos Housing Partnership, Inc. successfully bid today on Katherine’s Restaurant on Longview Drive in White Rock Village.
The auction occurred at noon today on the steps of the Los Alamos Justice Center. It drew two bidders for the property, which has been vacant for several years. Los Alamos National Bank bid $50,875 and LAHP bid $51,000. The most recent appraisal on Katherine’s Restaurant set the value at $115,000.
LAHP Board Member James Chrobocinski purchased the property today in the name of LAHP and will be reimbursed by the nonprofit organization, which focuses on affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization projects.
“We hope to purchase other vacant properties in White Rock Village and develop an affordable housing neighborhood in the area,” Chrobocinski said.
Katy Korkos and her late husband David Korkos opened Katherine’s Restaurant at 121 Longview Dr. in 1983 and closed it in 2006.
“I’m glad that the Los Alamos Housing Partnership is moving forward on this – it is the right path for White Rock,” Korkos said.
