Los Alamos High School Class of 2021 graduate Joshua Posada, a recent graduate of Rice University in Houston, has been honored with the Distinction in Research and Creative Work Award for his critical research and innovation during his time at Rice. This university award is given to select undergraduates who have demonstrated excellence in research and creative work.

Eligibility for the award extends widely to include a variety of research, design, and other creative projects, as well as persistent dedication to research within a student’s major field of study. The award is granted only to projects that produce a concrete outcome and demonstrate commitment and/or achievement above and beyond the norm.

More specifically, Posada contributed essential research to the Mapping Militants Project (MMP), which identifies patterns in the evolution of militant organizations and studies their changing inter-group relationships. His work has been cited by the New York Times and has been instrumental in assisting the Department of Homeland Security in identifying new terrorist groups.
