JJAB Community Gift Card Program Has Impact During COVID-19

JJAB News:

At the start of the pandemic, Los Alamos Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB) developed the Community Gift Card Program to assist community members in need, recognize helpers in the community, and support local eating establishments.

Since starting, the program has received and delivered 72 gift cards, impacting 202 adults/youth in Los Alamos and White Rock. The goal was to provide each recipient with funds for a meal for the entire family.

The gift cards were purchased by community members or with donations received, directly from local restaurants.  Secret City Kitchen, Pig + Fig, Cottonwood on the Greens, Morning Glory, and Pajarito Brewpub & Grill participated in the program and purchases helping these establishments to-date has totaled $4,700.

JJAB worked with other local non-profit agencies to identify residents in need and deliver the cards. Also, community members submitted recipients through the JJAB website. The focus was on those with financial or food need, anyone isolating or at high risk, and the recognition of healthcare or service workers. Of the 72 cards distributed thus far, 43 were provided to those impacted by COVID-19, and 29 went to recognize healthcare and service workers.

A recipient shared, “The JJAB gift card program was a nice surprise that really helped our family and meant a lot at a time of uncertainty”.

Los Alamos JJAB plans to continue providing the Community Gift Card Program as long as there is a need and available gift cards.
