Jemez Mountain Trail Sale News:
JEMEZ SPRINGS — The annual Jemez Mountain Trail Sale, which takes place Oct. 21-22, is celebrating 20 years as the longest – and most scenic – yard sale in New Mexico, with stops from San Ysidro throughout the Jemez Valley.
“Cluster” locations will be peppered along the Jemez Mountain Scenic Byway, which traverses 163 miles.
The sale runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. This year, in lieu of a physical map, shoppers may download a list of seller locations on the “Yard Sale Treasure Map” app. The app is free for Android and Apple SmartPhone users. Also new this year, the Village of Cuba has joined on as the newest community participating in the sale. Several cluster locations are available in Cuba.
“The Trail Sale has evolved over the past two decades, where we now have almost 163 miles of locations throughout the beautiful Jemez Valley,” organizer Talty Robinson said. “What hasn’t changed, however, is the unparalleled beauty of the fall colors, which are at their peak this time of year along the Scenic Byway.”
The Trail Sale has long been a popular event for anyone trying to sell unwanted items, and for bargain shoppers looking for treasures. The Trail Sale has also proven to be beneficial for nonprofits – such as churches, clubs and organizations – all hoping to capture shoppers along the scenic route.
Nearly any legal item may be sold. Food sales require a permit from the State of New Mexico in order to sell. Items that have sold in the past include clothing, toys, tools, artwork, kitchen utensils and appliances, boats, DVDs, RVs, pottery, food, jewelry, fruit, firewood and more.
Sellers are encouraged to team up with family and friends, as buyers are more likely to stop at larger multi-family sales. Sellers are also advised to create signage to encourage sellers to stop.
The Trail Sale is open to anyone, and there are typically no fees to set up. Selling locations are not allowed at the Jemez Springs Plaza, and it is illegal to set up on highway right-of-ways and forest lands. Cluster locations at private businesses or homes must be approved in advance.

Travelers are asked to drive slowly through Jemez Pueblo and Jemez Springs. Travelers on N.M. 4 can expect to see roads lined with yellow daisies, golden snakeweed,and orange and gold-hued Cottonwood trees trailing the Jemez River with the backdrop of the rust colored Jemez Mountains.
