The Los Alamos High School Olions are performing Les Misérables this month at Duane Smith Auditorium.

Senior Sam Wolfsberg, who has performed in several Olions productions over the years, has been cast in the role of Jean Valjean. Here is a recent interview with Sam.

What is Les Misérables about?

Les Misérables is about the character development of my character; Jean Valjean after he is sent to prison for 19 years. The musical is set in the early 1800s right after the French Revolution and revolves around the lives of those subject to poverty due to government upheaval. Additionally, it shows the triumphs, defeat, and revival of a man that society shunned as nothing more than a prisoner.

What attracted you to want to play the role of Jean Valjean?

I’ve been in love with Les Misérable since I was 9 years old. I wanted to play the role of Jean Valjean as soon as the spring musical was decided to be Les Misérables because I really admire stories that include great character growth, and all the change in who Valjean is as a person, based on what he endures is really fun to act out.

Why should people come to see Les Misérables?

Because it is a great chance to get out of the house and support local theater! And see your fellow community members and the high schoolers that have put in great amounts of work and commitment share their passions.
