The Los Alamos Lads of Enchantment (LOE) announced Monday that their 2014 Annual Show, Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, featuring the 2010 International Quartet Champion Storm Front has been moved to the Duane W. Smith Auditorium in Los Alamos .

John Baillie, president of the LOE, provided the following rationale for the move: “When it became clear that our usual venue at the United Church would not be in a suitable state due to construction, we made a study of all available performance spaces in the county. The clear favorite was the Smith Auditorium because the auditorium has recently been renovated and has all of the technical features requested by Storm Front. Since we have an international champion quartet, we want to provide them the best performing environment we can.”

Storm Front is one of the world’s most accomplished barbershop quartets, noted for both its great sound and its captivating performances. After qualifying for international competition in 2003 and placing 17th, the quartet placed 10th in the world in 2005 and 2006, sixth in 2008, and third in 2007 and 2009 before winning the gold medal in 2010.

Storm Front will perform in the second half of the show, following the presentation of “As Time Goes By” featuring the Lads of Enchantment Chorus and Quartets, under the direction of Jason Rutledge.

In appreciation for past support and having a desire that the community and northern New Mexico experience renowned, world champion barbershop performers, the LOE is holding admission prices to their customary levels of $15 for adults and $5 for students at the more-accommodating Smith Auditorium.

Supplement: International Champion Quartet to Perform at Lads of Enchantment Show

Storm Front, the Barbershop Harmony Society’s 2010 International Quartet Champion, will be the “Special Guest” performer at the Los Alamos Lads of Enchantment’s (LOE) 2014 Annual Barbershop show Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25, at the Duane Smith Auditorium in Los Alamos.

The LOE is especially excited to host Storm Front, because Storm Front is one of the world’s most accomplished barbershop quartets, noted for both its wonderful singing and its comedy routines.

Storm front first electrified Los Alamos audiences in 2003 when they were the little-known 2002 Rocky Mountain District Champion and the world’s 17th ranked quartet. Subsequently, they placed 10th in the world in 2005 and 2006, sixth in 2008, and third in 2007 and 2009, before winning the gold medal in 2010.

Storm Front is a great favorite among its fellow singers in the Barbershop Harmony Society.  Consequently, Storm Front has appeared throughout the US, in Canada, in Great Britain and is scheduled to perform in Japan in early 2015.  The Group has also produced four CD albums and two DVDs that will be available for purchase at the show.

As customary, the LOE Annual Show will have two parts. The LOE will perform in the first part, and Storm Front will perform after intermission and refreshments.

This year’s LOE show segment is titled “As Time Goes By” and will be directed by Jason Rutledge, who is also the Director of Choirs for the Los Alamos School District and an accomplished singer, in his own right.

“As Time Goes By” will tell a story, sung by the LOE Chorus and quartets.  The songs will include traditional barbershop favorites, such as “Muskrat Ramble” and “Hello Mary Lou”, and classic ballads, including “As Time Goes By”, “Something” (by George Harrison), “Dream”, and perennial favorite, “Shenandoah”.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. both days. On Friday night, there will be an “Afterglow” in the chorus room, adjacent to the Auditorium, following the show. The Afterglow entails a snack and additional singing by Storm Front and LOE quartets for a modest fee of $5. Advance tickets ($15; $5 for students) may be purchased at CB FOX or from chorus members.
