Odds are that you have not heard about the rapidly growing availability in our area of more successful and evidence-based treatment for addiction disorders. There are four clinics now offering this medically assisted treatment (MAT) in Española, and steadily more local people are now getting such help.
The most dramatic increase in such resources, though, is coming online this month – the Renewal Clinic at Presbyterian Española Hospital. With a planned capacity for outpatient treatment of 1,900 separate people per year, and a large facility and staff, this clinic is likely to be a game-changer for all of Northern New Mexico. Success in addiction treatment over 1-2 years may well lead to regional reductions in homelessness, overdoses, crime rates, family schisms, suicides, accidents, divorces and more.
At the invitation of the Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness, Dr. Eric Ketcham, an addiction medicine specialist and Director of the Renewal Clinic, will present an overview of this exciting development this Wednesday, Aug. 13. It will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, and the public is encouraged to attend.
