Inside Arts Series Features Ruth Williamson

Ruth Williamson

COMMUNITY News:

Ruth Williamson will be featured in the Inside Arts series of The Los Alamos Museum of Art airing on PAC 8 at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Mach 29, 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 and 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2.

Williamson almost always wears a smile. Her effervescence makes people want to hang around.  She said music is one of her outstanding assets and sharing music is her driving force. Passing her house people might hear a few bars from Beethoven’s “Sonata Pathetique,” one of her favorite pieces to play.

An accomplished pianist, Williamson has taught music, accompanied choirs and been part of many musical groups including the Vested Interests, Bach to Blues and the Hot Flashes.

One of her great pleasures is leading the weekly sing along at the Day Out in the Senior Center. She said that music unlocks doors that old age or physical injuries often close. She added people only have to drop in on one of these sessions to witness the joy that singing together brings.

Along the way, Williamson has collected a large assortment of musical instruments from around the world: kyotos from Japan, anklungs from Java, Poi balls from Hawaii among a few. Music in one way or another fills most of the spaces in this musician’s life.

Inside Arts airs weekly at 8:30 p.m. Sundays, 4 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 p.m. Thursdays on PAC8. For more information contact Jean Gindreau at PAC 8 at 505.662.7228 or pac8@losalamos.com or Ruth Tatter at LAMOA at 505.662.5496.
