Inside Arts Features Robert Wells On PAC 8 Thursday

COMMUNITY News:

The Los Alamos Museum of Art continues its series, Inside Arts, with an interview of collector Robert Wells, airing at 4 p.m. Tuesday and 8 p.m. Thursday on PAC 8.

Art collectors practice a special kind of art creating marvelous “collages”, a collection, shaped by research, selection and opportunity. One such artist is the collector Wells.

During a career that took him from West Point to Los Alamos National Laboratory and now retirement, Wells has had an affinity for art. Adept at drawing and sketching as a boy, he developed a talent as a sculptor. Some of his sculptures took up to 200 hours.

“That’s what gave me a lot of appreciation for sculpture … Stone gives you a lot of suggestions as to what you’re going to do with it,” Well said.

He added, perhaps one of those suggestions was to collect it.

Wells has visited most of the major sculpture gardens in the U.S. and museums world-wide and along the way expanded his “collage” of art into the varied and amazing collection he has today.

“I felt that there was a lot of two-dimensional art but not that much three-dimensional art around,” Wells said. “It became almost a game of what’s the best I could come up with.”

Wells has come up with many “bests” in his collection of sculpture and painting.

Inside Arts airs weekly 8:30 p.m. Sundays, 4 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 p.m. Thursdays on PAC 8. For more information, contact Jean Gindreau at 505.662.7228 or pac8@losalamos.com or Ruth Tatter at LAMOA at 505.662.5496 or at rjtatter@gmail.com.
