Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration At Museum Of Indian Arts And Culture

The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture invites the public to a vibrant and family-friendly celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day 2025, from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12.

The event will feature Native dance performances, storytelling, cultural demonstrations, a special exhibition tour, and more. Special guests include White Mountain Apache Crown Dancers (White River, AZ), Kenneth Duncan (San Carlos Apache), and Shannon Trujillo (Diné/Washoe), Face Painter. Free admission all day, generously sponsored by Sandia Resort & Casino. 

Schedule of events:

  • All day: Air dry clay under the Outdoor Ramada
  • Bundle Indian Tea (Cota) gathered in MIAC’s backyard
  • Fun face painting for all ages by Shannon Trujillo (Diné/Washoe)
  • 10:30–11 a.m.: Storytelling for young children, Roland’s Discovery Center
  • 11 a.m.–12 p.m.: Native Dance Series: White Mountain Apache Crown Dancers, Milner Plaza12
  • 12–1 p.m.: Free Pueblo food provided in the Meem Auditorium12
  • 1–2 p.m.: Presentation by Kenneth Duncan (San Carlos Apache), a talk about Apache Culture and Traditions
  • 2–3 p.m.: Native Dance Series: White Mountain Apache Crown Dancers from White River, AZ on the Milner Plaza
  • 3–4 p.m.: Tour of the brand-new exhibit, Essential Elements: Art, Environment, and Indigenous Futures given by Head of Curatorial Affairs Elisa Phelps

This annual celebration honors the history, culture, and resilience of Indigenous peoples. Through music, dance, art, storytelling, and food, the museum invites the community to learn, reflect, and celebrate Indigenous heritage.
