Indian Pueblo Cultural Center News:
The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is hosting 10 days of special events to coincide with this year’s Balloon Fiesta, starting on Friday, Oct. 6 and running through Sunday, Oct. 15.
Activities include IPCC’s Albuquerque American Indian Arts Festival during Balloon Fiesta’s opening weekend on Saturday, Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as an expanded schedule of cultural Native dances that kicks off on Friday, Oct. 6 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 15. IPCC will also host an Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration on Monday, Oct. 9.
The IPCC Albuquerque American Indian Arts Festival is an authentic, all–Native American art show. This premier event will showcase the work of more than 50 artists and gives visitors the opportunity to meet, talk with, and shop directly from Native artists. The two-day festival also will also include cultural Native dances and artist demonstrations.
Each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., IPCC’S beautiful, mural-lined courtyard will have multiple Native dances and be filled with Native artists selling their handcrafted art and jewelry. Guests can also shop for authentic Native art at the Indian Pueblo Store and are also invited to experience immersive exhibits and learn about Pueblo history and culture. In addition, visitors can savor authentic Indigenous cuisine at IPCC’s acclaimed Indigenous restaurant, Indian Pueblo Kitchen.
IPCC’s museum exhibits include our permanent exhibit “We Are of This Place: The Pueblo Story” and our South Gallery rotating exhibits “Grounded: Honoring Our Cultural Ties With Strength and Resilience” and “Birds and Feathers: Their Beauty Within Our Traditions”. Guests can also experience the Artists Circle Gallery, which is now showing an exhibit called “Colors That Speak Words” and “Connected: A Collaborative Dreaming” in our Art Through Struggle Gallery.
“We look forward to welcoming guests from around the world for what will be a very special 10 days at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center,” said Scott Simmonds, IPCC’s Museum Executive Director. “We will offer a truly unforgettable cultural experience, with amazing art, dance, history, food and—of course—our celebrated Pueblo hospitality.”
IPCC is also proud to present cultural Native dances on Balloon Fiesta’s Main Stage by the Cellicion Traditional Dancers (Zuni) on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9-10 a.m., as well as a performance by the Kallestewa Dance Group (Zuni) on Friday, Oct. 13 from 9-10 a.m.
On Monday, Oct. 9 from 9-4 p.m., New Mexico’s Native American tribes gather with civic officials and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center to commemorate this statewide holiday with cultural dances, Native artisans and guest speakers. Join us as we celebrate the rich history, resilience and contributions of Native people. Renowned cartoonist and artist Ricardo Caté (Santo Domingo Pueblo) and Miss Indian New Mexico, Kelsey Quintana (Jicarilla Apache Nation), will be part of the day’s festivities.
