In Praise Of Los Alamos Schools

It was a little more than a year ago (Jan. 29, 2015) that the Los Alamos Daily Post did a nice story on the appointment of our oldest son, Kevin Johnson (LAHS, 1978), as President and Chief Operating Officer of Starbucks (link). If you will forgive our presumptiveness, it just occurred to us that there might be another story connecting Kevin, his sister Kerry Johnson Hinsch (LAHS, 1981), Kevin’s younger brother Dr. Tim Johnson (LAHS, 1985), and Tim’s daughter Emily Johnson (LAHS, 2016).

The connecting theme being the excellent public education provided by the Los Alamos Schools. Kerry and Tim have also been successful in their respective careers. Kerry is currently a project manager with Nordstrom in the Corporate Office (Seattle), and has been in fashion merchandising for thirty years. Tim has been an optometrist with Eye Associates of New Mexico for 20 years (practice in Los Alamos, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque), Emily graduates from LAHS this year and plans a career in nursing.

We don’t think it was an accident that all three of our children did well, and we don’t think it is an accident that the same qualities can be seen in Emily. The common experience is clearly the Los Alamos Public Schools and the community’s emphasis on excellence.

Congratulations Emily and LAHS Class of 2016!
