For the seventh consecutive year, the International Association of Firefighters Local #3279 in Los Alamos will recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October by raising funds for the New Mexico Cancer Center in Albuquerque.

T-shirts designed by Local #3279 President Bert Quintana and Marisha Griego of the Los Alamos Fire Department administration staff are being sold and also will be worn by LAFD personnel throughout October. They may be purchased at the LAFD Administration Offices at 999 Central Ave., Suite 200. The shirts are $10.50 if paying with a card or $10 cash.

Union treasurer Kevin Kamplain said $1,200 was raised in Los Alamos last year and he hopes to increase that amount this year.

“The New Mexico Cancer Center provides monetary assistance to people for their non-medical needs while being treated for cancer. Last year, the Center helped 124 patients with everything from hotel rooms while traveling for treatment to meals for patients and gasoline so that they could make it to their appointments,” Kamplain said. “All profits from sales of the T-shirts will be sent to help with this important cause.”
