Hypno Talk: What is Hypnotherapy?

What is Hypnotherapy?

Let me introduce to you the most powerful self-help system known to man – Hypnotherapy!

What exactly is hypnotherapy and how can it help me, you may be wondering? Hypnotherapy uses the ancient art of hypnosis to put a client into a deep state of relaxation.

Once the client is relaxed completely the therapist accesses the most powerful part of the mind, the subconscious mind. This is where we hold all of our beliefs and memories.

Before we get too far down the rabbit hole let me explain a little about the mind, starting with the conscious mind. Our conscious mind is our logical mind, it analyses and judges.

In the conscious mind is the critical faculty or the critical factor as some people call it, and this is the chatter-box or monkey-mind that is always questioning.

The subconscious mind runs our autonomic nervous system. Our beating heart, our breathing, the blood pumping through our veins, all of the mechanics that are going on automatically in our bodies, this is preformed by our mighty, all powerful, subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind is also called our Creative Healing Intelligence. Unlike the conscious mind, which is selective, the subconscious mind remembers everything.

From the time we are born we are getting programmed – by parents, teachers, peers, environment. Events happen as we go through our lives that cause us to hold on to certain beliefs.

Some of these events we remember but others are buried deep in the subconscious and we have no idea why we are suffering. From these beliefs our attitudes and behaviors are born.

Some of these beliefs that we hold are negative and limiting e.g. I am stupid, I’m not good enough, I’ll never find the right mate, math is not my strong point, I have no talent, etc.

The subconscious mind doesn’t discern fact from fantasy, it believes everything the conscious mind tells it. Here’s an example: a woman has been overweight her whole life.

Any attempts to lose the weight have been futile. She can’t understand why she cannot lose weight. In hypnosis she was regressed to when she was a child of 4 years old, she was tall for her age.

When people would comment on how tall she was she kept hearing her grandmother saying, “she’s big boned, she takes after my brother Tom.” She remembers her Uncle Tom as being a huge man, both tall and overweight.

Because her conscious mind believed her grandmother (grandma was an authority figure), her subconscious vision of herself was identical to the image she had of her uncle. Her subconscious gave her exactly what she visualized herself to be.

So what we do in hypnotherapy is, the therapist will induce a deep state of relaxation (hypnosis.) She/he will bypass the conscious, critical mind – kind of put it to the side for a while where it won’t get in the way.

She/he will then access the subconscious mind, find out what belief is causing the issue at hand (if it is not already consciously known), and then reprogram it.

The therapist will erase those negative, limiting beliefs and replace them with positive suggestions and imagery.  A minimum of six sessions is recommended to really erase the issue and reprogram the mind. Only six  sessions! Compare that to psychotherapy.

Sound too simple? It really is that easy. And no, you won’t be running around the room clucking like a chicken!

Hypnotherapy is a wonderful and powerful way for you to heal your body and heal your mind. Are you ready to stop the suffering?
