HOUSING NM News:
ALBUQUERQUE — Housing New Mexico announced 2026 updates to its initial 2022 New Mexico Housing Strategy—the state’s first comprehensive roadmap to advancing housing opportunity and stability. The 2026 update provides current data on population trends, projected and current housing needs, market trends, and it incorporates research on best practices to promote housing production.
The 2026 New Mexico Housing Strategy estimates that nearly 58,000 new units will be needed statewide by 2045. Meeting this demand will require a range of housing types, from apartments to smaller for-sale homes.
“Housing challenges continue to persist, but considering how tough the market is, we’ve seen much progress over the past few years,” said Housing New Mexico Executive Director/CEO Isidoro Hernandez. “It is clear that a direct investment in affordable housing is paying off, and we look forward to working with our state leaders and nearly 400 partners to continue moving forward to address the affordable housing needs in New Mexico.”
The entire updated 2026 Housing Strategy is now available on the Housing New Mexico website.
