SANTA FE — To celebrate its’ 12th year rescuing, saving and providing sanctuary for horses, The Horse Shelter (THS) is hosting its 10th annual philanthropic Equine Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27 at Restaurant Martin.
The five-course, wine paired meal is created specifically for the event by Chef Martin Rios, an eight-time James Beard finalist for Best Chef of the Southwest.
Over the course of 10 years, the event has helped support more than 300 horses, adopted 210 horses, fed with 88,000 bales of hay, invested in 16,640 hours of professional horse training, received more than 47,000 hours of volunteer time, and spent nearly $200,000 on veterinary care. For some horses, THS will be a life-long sanctuary due to their history, age and medical condition.
“My mother started the shelter and it has been our family’s privilege to continue her legacy by supporting the programs to help abandoned horses,” THS Board President Jennifer Rios said. “This unique event allows us to pair both our professional and personal passions.”
The Horse Shelter is New Mexico’s largest non-profit rescue and a no-kill shelter and sanctuary, with active training, adoption and volunteer programs. Rescued horses are rehabilitated, trained and found adoptive homes whenever possible that support their well-being and future long-term care.
Tickets to the dinner are $150 plus gratuity. Reservations required. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advanced notice. All proceeds benefit The Horse Shelter.
“Chef Rios and staff outdo themselves every year … a brilliant menu expertly paired with luscious wines and amazing service … all to benefit great work being done at The Horse Shelter,” THS Board Treasurer Tara Earley said.
