COMMUNITY News:

Single parents have a unique set of needs and the holiday stress can be difficult for these already maxed out families. Single moms and dad sometimes feel lonely or ignored when the community around them is celebrating holidays and family traditions.

This year Santa Claus has decided to do something a little extra to make sure that these families know they are valued members of this community. He just announced that he will personally be visiting Los Alamos Dec. 10 to spend some time with single parent families. He will be available for free pictures during the entire party hosted by JudyGails Place. Children who don’t make Santa’s naughty list before Dec. 10 will even go home with something special to put under their tree.

This special Christmas party is only for single parents and their children. It is 1-3 p.m., Dec. 10 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road. The event is completely free, open to all single parents and their children and no RSVP or sign up required for single parents and their children to attend.

Rumor also has it that Blues Revue Band wants to make sure they don’t get coal in their stockings this year so they will be playing at the party. Blues Revue Band from Santa Fe offers a fun and feisty blend of blues, Americana, original and old time classics and is one of the area’s favorite dance bands. With 3 CDs (one award winner), the band has national recognition and has played the Festival circuit in New Mexico, including the Summer Bandstand, and appear regularly at Santa Fe’s 2nd Street Brewery. Single parent families don’t want to miss this opportunity to kick up their heels, let their hair down and dance to one of Santa Fe’s finest group of musicians.

If you are not a single parent, but would like to be part of giving a little something special to these families this holiday season, JudyGails Place is accepting new gifts valued around $20 apiece for children of all ages.  These gifts can be dropped off at JudyGails Place at 3900 Trinity Dr., New Mexico Bank and Trust, Grace Christian Fellowship Church, La Vista Church of the Nazarene or New Mexico Revival in White Rock. Please drop off all unwrapped gifts before Nov. 21 to allow time to help Santa get them ready for special delivery.
