History On Tap Thursday: History Of The Metric System

CREATIVE DISTRICT News:

Join the Los Alamos History Museum for History on Tap for an engaging discussion about the history of the metric system with Linda Anderman. History on Tap, part of the On Tap series presented by the Los Alamos Creative District, is 5:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at UnQuarked, 145 Central Park Square.

For the past five years, Anderman has researched (and blogged about) the history of the metric system and its relationship to the United States. Even though it has been legal to trade in the metric system in this country since 1866 and the US had one of the first decimalized currencies in the world, metric measures still remain largely unused by Americans. Linda will explore some of that background during this presentation.

More information about History on Tap and other Historical Society programs and events can be found at losalamoshistory.org and by following the Los Alamos History Museum on Facebook.

The On Tap series happens every first and third Thursday of the month, featuring a new topic each time. The first Thursday of month rotates topics on history, nature, and art. The third Thursday of the month is always Science on Tap. This series begins each evening with an informal 10 to 15 minute lecture followed by a lively group discussion. “On Tap” is a way for people to get out and about in the community, learn something new, and meet people with similar interests. Admission is free and open to the general public.

The Los Alamos Creative District is a program of Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation; a private, not-for-profit economic and community development organization serving the Los Alamos area since 1983. LACDC serves as the umbrella organization for the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce, Los Alamos MainStreet, Discover Los Alamos, Los Alamos Small Business Center, Los Alamos Creative District, project Y Cowork Los Alamos, and the Los Alamos Research Park.
