High Flyers Gymnasts Win In Rio Rancho

The Los Alamos High Flyers Gymnastics Level 6 team took first place Jan. 6 at the New Year’s Blast meet in Rio Rancho.

The team, comprised of Gianna Benelli, Siena Rolfe, Megan Martinez and Elaina Irving, also took home several individual awards. Benelli placed first on vault and floor exercise and was second all-around in the meet.

Rolfe placed second on floor exercise, and Martinez took the bronze medal on balance beam. Sarah Worley, competing at Level 7, took first on vault and third on balance beam, while Ashley Bustos, took home the silver medal for her Level 8 uneven bars routine.

The compulsory and Xcel teams also are off to a great start, competing in December in Santa Fe where Lauren Evenhus and Elena Gallegos of the Level 4 team posted high all-around scores, and last weekend in Albuquerque where the Level 2 team members in their first year of competition took 2nd place team.

Allie Jackson was first on vault and uneven bars and was the all-around champion while teammate Madison King was first on balance beam. Yuiko Yamaguchi won first place on both balance beam and floor exercise in her age division.

The teams will be competing at several meets in January and February before concluding their competitive season at the state championships in March.
