SBDC News:
Hideout Café is now open at the University of New Mexico–Los Alamos campus, offering students, staff and the broader community a new on-campus, mountain view, dining option featuring New Mexican favorites and a fresh salad bar.
The cafe is owned and operated by Victor Castillo, who also owns Señor Tortas, located at Smith’s Marketplace in Los Alamos. Hideout Café is Castillo’s second restaurant in town and takes the place of the former Secret City Cafe.
“We’re excited to bring something new and welcoming to the UNM-LA campus,” Castillo said. “Hideout Café is a place where students can grab a quick $6 breakfast burrito before class, enjoy a green chile Lobo Burger with fries for lunch or just sit down with a beverage from our soda machine with different flavor combos.”
There are many items that differ and expand upon the Senor Tortas menu offerings. Castillo invites the public to experience what’s new and delicious, including comfort foods like club sandwich, pastrami and provolone and patty melt sandwiches.
Hideout Café features a full salad bar with a variety of fresh greens, toppings, and soups, providing a lighter fare option.
“We wanted to offer something for everyone, and provide affordable options for students,” Castillo said. Catering for special events and meetings is also offered on and off campus.
Castillo said opening a second restaurant in Los Alamos reflects his commitment to the community.
“Los Alamos has been incredibly supportive of Señor Tortas,” he said. “Opening Hideout Café at UNM-LA is another way for us to invest in this community and serve great food in a friendly space.”
As construction at UNM-LA wraps up in the front parking lot, there will be dedicated short-term parking spaces, making it an accessible breakfast and lunch stop for the public. For students, it’s easy to walk on over. The open dining offers breathtaking views and plenty of space to relax.
Hideout Café is located on the UNM-Los Alamos campus and is open to the public, Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more menu details, visit thehideoutcafela.com.
