WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Steve Daines (R-Mont.) announced that the U.S. Senate passed their bipartisan resolution they led to designate the week of Feb. 2, 2026, as “National Tribal Colleges and Universities Week.” This resolution seeks to uplift and celebrate the achievements of students pursuing postsecondary educational opportunities in Tribal Colleges and Universities.
“Our resolution affirms the important role that Tribal Colleges and Universities play in preparing Native and non-Native students for careers they can build their families around in their home communities, upholding Tribal educational sovereignty, and preparing the next generation of Tribal leaders,” Heinrich said. “As we continue working to support these important institutions through both appropriations and legislation, I’m very pleased the Senate passed our bipartisan resolution designating this week as National Tribal Colleges and Universities Week.”

The resolution was led by Heinrich and Daines and cosponsored by U.S. Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.), Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
