Staff Report

Owner Heather Burke of Enterprise Computing Systems has been in business since 1995. She offers a variety of services to homes and businesses. Twenty-six years in business means much experience in computer support, servers and networks, home technologies and system upgrades.

Despite having a difficult time with pneumonia in April, she continues to take on the world of computer problems, with her trusty oxygen machine by her side.

About Enterprise Computing Systems:

  • Founded in 1995 as Pinon PC Support, incorporated to Enterprise Computing Systems, LLC in 2008.

Pandemic changes:

  • An increase in support of clients using remote connections to reduce the amount of going on site.
  • Assist converting businesses to “work from home” model.
  • Even though IT was not seen as an essential worker group by state government, ECS’s clients disagree with that statement.
  • During the pandemic, ECS has upgraded 5 of the 7 corporate servers of its business clients. This has created a reduction in service calls due to the more stable environments being created at these businesses due to what a new server brings.

Changes over the years:

  • Homes and businesses have gone from stand alone computers to complex network setups.
  • Due to their increased use of technologies at home, people have gained a greater confidence in their technology skills. This is causing some problems in the workplace such as employees changing settings of networks or replacing entire systems, without the planning required to keep business level systems working at their best.
  • Helping business clients plan for future technologies. Designing growth paths to help them advance with a strong technology foundation.

ECS has seen the implementation of many technology milestones over the years:

  • Introduction of DSL high speed internet to Los Alamos in 1999.
  • The creative workarounds towards the local lack of service for iPhones in 2006-2008 when they were only supported by AT&T.
  • The increased reliance on computers and technology in the support of business practices and functions.
  • Home networks becoming quite sophisticated in their use of computers, printers, and hand-held devices.
  • The implementation of wireless connections.
  • The creation of remote support.
  • Offering subscription based monitoring services to keep an eye on servers and computers.

“My clients include local businesses, doctors, lawyers, accountants, stores, vets, churches, movie theaters, home businesses, scientists and families,” Burke said. “I often work odd hours so that these businesses and employees can maintain their proper schedules. This includes working evenings, nights, weekends and over the holidays.”
