SALA Los Alamos Event Center presents a dynamic and meaningful week of programming from August 11 to 17, 2025, with a mix of community films, new releases, classic cinema, and the much-anticipated opening of the Oppenheimer Festival. The week’s lineup showcases a celebration of storytelling, heritage, and community dialogue.

LAFC Monthly Movie & Dinner: The Gods Must Be Crazy
An offbeat comedy classic that follows a bushman’s encounter with modern civilization after discovering a Coca-Cola bottle. The film is paired with a group dinner and discussion.

The Oppenheimer Festival 2025 — Aug. 16–31, 2025
The Oppenheimer Festival officially opens Saturday, August 16, with two weeks of programming dedicated to the life, legacy, and moral questions surrounding J. Robert Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project. The festival includes film screenings, immersive media, discussions, and community events.

  • 4 p.m. — Doctor Atomic: A stirring modern opera that delves into the emotional tension of the atomic bomb’s creation. Access via Peace Pass, Legacy Pass, or individual ticket.

Oppenheimer Festival Tours

Daily guided and self-guided tours are also available throughout the festival, offering an immersive journey into Los Alamos’ Manhattan Project history. These include walking tours, storytelling stops, and augmented-reality-based explorations.
