Hampton: April 4 Transportation Board Meeting Update

By DAVID HAMPTON
Chair
Los Alamos Transportation Board

At our last Transportation Board meeting, April 4, 2024, we received a presentation from Member Karen Edwards on the inclusion of blind and low-vision customers in public transportation. She challenged us to consider special transportation difficulties these individuals may experience and to take them into consideration in planning and operating our public transit system.

May 16 will be the annual Bike-to-Work Day (note the date change). If you are interested in helping with this event, including planning, please email Louise Romero at lb.romero@lacnm.us.

Public comment was received on the North Mesa roundabout and traffic near the airport.

Councilor Melanee Hand updated us on her continued involvement with regional transportation and economic development entities.

Thank you to our County Council for filling one of our board vacancies with the appointment of Joshua Muck on April 9, 2024. Council also passed a resolution of support authorizing application for funding assistance to the New Mexico Department of Transportation through the Fiscal Year 2025 Transportation Project Fund (TPF) for the Denver Steels Phase 2 Reconstruction Project.

Our next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2 in Council Chambers. It will feature, among other things, a presentation on the Denver Steels Phase II Roadway and Utilities Improvements Project, Transit Center preliminary planning, and proposed mid-block crossing.

If you are interested in serving on the Transportation Board, we still need two new members. Apply here. You can also get more information by emailing us at tb@lacnm.us.
