Halloweekend Celebration With 3 Days Of Fun Oct. 25-27

The beloved and iconic annual Halloween celebration in Los Alamos—Halloweekend—returns Oct. 25-27.

The lively three-day celebration encapsulates the small-town charm and community-minded spirit of Los Alamos through a variety of events, including trick-or-treating, interactive games, pumpkin carving, STEM activities and so much more.

Events kick off Friday, Oct. 25:

  • Los Alamos Medical Center, 3-5 p.m., where children and families can enjoy delicious treats and family fun.
  • Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet, 4-6 p.m. along Central Avenue, hosted by Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District. Streets will be closed to traffic to allow families to visit local businesses handing out candy. Plus, 15th Street will have County snowplows on display for kids and parents to explore.
  • Halloween Carnival, 7-10 p.m., at Los Alamos Teen Center with music, games and Halloween treats for high school-aged teenagers.

Honoring Los Alamos’ heritage as the birthplace of groundbreaking scientific discoveries, Halloweekend will feature a variety of STEM-related activities:

  • PEEC-a-Boo, 4-6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25 at the Los Alamos Nature Center. This free event features sensory-friendly trick-or-treating and fun activities.
  • High-Tech Halloween, 4-6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25, at The Bradbury. Enjoy spooky science fun for all ages at this free event.
  • Halloween Astronomy, 6-7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25 at the Los Alamos Nature Center. Learn about the historic traditions of Halloween and the connections to astronomy at this fun, educational event. Tickets are $6 for children and $8 for adults (families can purchase a family ticket for $20).

On both Friday and Saturday, stop by Family Strengths Network for a Fall Party, 10 a.m. to noon both days. Children and families will delight in playing outdoor games, pumpkin painting (BYOP), cookie decorating, a costume runway and more.

Events continue Saturday, with the Pumpkin Splash at Los Alamos County Aquatic Center, 9-11:30 a.m., followed by a Pumpkin Carving Party 10 a.m. to noon, at Fuller Lodge with 100 free pumpkins provided. Those who don’t want to carve a pumpkin but want to see other peoples’ artwork can attend Pumpkin Glow, dusk to 9 p.m. on the back lawn at Fuller Lodge. Also on Saturday, 6:30-8 p.m., the Little Theatre will host a Ghost Hunt, there will be a Haunted Trail 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Pueblo Canyon Inn and a concert at 7:30 p.m. featuring the Atomic Follies along with a costume contest and food at the Sheriff’s Posse Lodge.

Halloweekend culminates at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, with Jack O’ Lantern Family Paint Night at the Los Alamos Co-Op Market.
