Griffith Gymnasium Mural Contest Announced

LAPSF News:

Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation announces a call for original artwork that represents the Hilltopper Spirit.

The mural contest is open to all Los Alamos Public School students in grades 8-12. This mural is to honor the creativity and memory of Isaac Hayden. Hayden’s family and friends, the LAHS Class of 1994 and LAPS Foundation have contributed to the project.

The winning submission will be painted in the interior of Griffith Gymnasium by a professional mural team. The finished size of the mural will be approximately 12’ high x 18’ wide and will adorn the east wall of the gym.

Contest submissions must include at least one design element from the original artwork of Isaac Hayden which is currently on display in a glass case in the A wing lobby of Los Alamos High School and in the classroom of Karen Trythall at Los Alamos Middle School. The approved Los Alamos High School logos (also displayed) may be used whole or in part.

A complete list of contest rules are available at the LAHS Athletic Office, and through art teachers Mary Grace at Los Alamos High School and Karen Trythall at Los Alamos Middle School. The winning student artist(s) will have their original art displayed indefinitely, and will also be given credit for their original mural design.

A committee that includes community members, professional local artists, present and former LAPS art teachers, members of the Hayden family and members of the LAPS Foundation Board of Directors shall select the winning design. The deadline to submit is 4 p.m. Monday, April 22.

Donations are still needed to complete this project and can be made at www.lapsfoundation.com or by mail at LAPS Foundation, 1900 Diamond Dr., Suite 1, Los Alamos, NM 87544. Please designate “Mural Project” on the memo line.
