Gov. Susana Martinez
STATE News:
SANTA FE – Gov. Susana Martinez today announced that 27 DWI fugitives on the state’s top 10 list have been captured since the Governor announced the initiative in December 2015. Additionally, 255 absconders with DWI issues have been captured.
“The number of fugitives who have now faced justice is encouraging,” Martinez said. “I’m very grateful to law enforcement for their hard work keeping our families safe, but there is so much more to do. I encourage everyone to keep an eye out. These absconders are dangerous and putting lives in danger.”
Currently, there are two absconders left from the original top 10 list, which is updated each time a fugitive is caught – Shawn Davis and Ramona Morin.
“Keeping New Mexico families safe from drunken drivers on our roads and highways is one of the top priorities for our probation and parole officers,” said David Jablonski, Cabinet Secretary for the Corrections Department. “Our probation officers work closely with State Police and local law enforcement officials on a daily basis to track these offenders and lock them up before they can cause any harm.”
The “Top 10 List” of DWI absconders in the state is part of an initiative enacted by Governor Susana Martinez to crackdown on repeat offender absconders. The top 10 DWI absconders are listed on the ENDWI website, along with absconders who have been captured. This is just one of the many initiatives spearheaded by Governor Martinez to combat drunk driving.
“NMDOT will continue to work towards ending DWI on New Mexico roads,” NMDOT Cabinet Secretary Tom Church said. “It’s so important that we stop drunk driving – it’s causing hazardous situations on our highways every day.”
